The University of Illinois Springfield Innovation Center has announced a lease agreement with Horace Mann to expand its economic development programs. The center will occupy space at Horace Mann's downtown Springfield campus, aiming to enhance its focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration.
The lease spans 2.5 years and is expected to be finalized by September. This expansion will increase the center's area by nearly 3,000 square feet, totaling 9,800 square feet. The new facilities will include co-working and incubation spaces, instructional areas for workforce development, and larger venues for events and pitch competitions.
Rep. Coffey commented on the development: "This is exciting news and will generate more opportunities for innovation and economic growth right here in Springfield and across the state."
As part of this initiative, Innovate Springfield, the UIS business incubator that has been aiding regional entrepreneurs and startups for a decade, will integrate into the UIS Innovation Center. It will move from its current location at 15 S. Old State Capitol Plaza to the new premises on Horace Mann's third floor.
