Regan Deering, the Republican candidate for the 88th State House District, recounted an encounter with a constituent in 2023 and the subsequent positive outcome of that meeting in a Facebook post this week. After defeating Chuck Erickson in the primary in March, Deering is now preparing for the general election.

"A good news story to share," said Deering, according to Facebook. "I met veteran Kevin at the Argenta parade last summer. Illinois that take care of one another."

In her social media update, Deering referred to a post from the Chatham Police Department. The post revealed how Kevin Campbell, a veteran whom Deering had previously met, visited the HSHS Medical Group Family Health Clinic in Chatham on March 13. Campbell was behaving unusually, prompting front desk clerk Lisa Holquist to contact the police for assistance.

The report from Chatham Police indicated that Campbell had taken a new prescription medication and was experiencing an adverse reaction. Officer Adam Hahn of Chatham Police found Campbell and alerted his family and the Chatham Fire Department. Consequently, Campbell was transported to receive medical treatment.

Campbell expressed his gratitude towards Holquist in his Facebook post saying, "She could have easily watched me walk out of that facility and started helping the next patient in line. I wasn’t a patient at her clinic, and she was under no obligation to help me. But she didn’t, and her calling police to check on me saved my life. I have no recollection whatsoever of this incident and Lord knows what would have happened to me if she didn’t care enough about me to make the call."

Deering, who previously ran for Congress and currently serves on the Mount Zion school board, announced her candidacy for Illinois' 88th House District in June. Although she did not initially aspire to be a politician, she stated there is demand for advocates of common sense conservatism and fearless leaders committed to representing voters' values and interests in Springfield. According to an earlier report by Macon Reporter, Deering added that Central Illinois needs problem solvers with practical experience dedicated to fostering success for all.
