The Illinois College women's tennis team faced two defeats on Saturday during the Midwest Conference opening weekend. The team lost 5-2 to Cornell in the morning and then fell 7-0 to Grinnell in the afternoon.

In the match against Cornell, the Rams secured the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. In singles play, Illinois College saw victories from Sophie Muir at No. 3 and Madison Eastin at No. 5, but Cornell won the remaining four singles matches to claim victory.

Against Grinnell, the Pioneers shut out Illinois College by winning all three doubles matches and all six singles matches. Eastin led her team by taking her match at No. 5 to a tiebreaker in the second set.

The Lady Blues will next compete on Thursday when they travel to Southwestern Illinois College for a non-conference match, with the first serve scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Belleville, Ill.
