Aidan Gowin scored three goals to lead Illinois College past Coe in a men's non-conference soccer match on Saturday night at England Stadium. The victory moved Illinois College to 5-3-0 for the season, while the Kohawks fell to 3-3-1.
In a match that ended 5-2 in favor of Illinois College, Gowin's performance was pivotal, with all three of his goals coming in the first half. His initial goal came just 6:11 into the match via a penalty kick. Shortly thereafter, Jives Efemini scored on a header one minute and one second later. Gowin continued his dominance by scoring again at the 11:03 mark and completing his hat trick at 19:42.
Coe managed to get on the scoreboard at the 37:11 mark, but Illinois College held a commanding 4-1 lead at halftime. In the second period, Coe opened the scoring before Tyler Schiltz added another goal for Illinois College at 81:20 to finalize the scoreline.
Illinois College outshot Coe 11-8, with Gowin making an impact by converting all three of his shots into goals. Owen Macias contributed four saves while playing throughout the entire match as goalkeeper for Illinois College.
The next game for Illinois College will be against Greenville on Tuesday at England Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
