Illinois College falls short against Augustana in women's soccer

The Illinois College Lady Blues soccer team faced Augustana College in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening. The game, held in Rock Island, Illinois, ended with the Lady Blues losing 1-2 to the Vikings. This result leaves the Lady Blues with an overall record of 3-5-1 for the season.

The match began with Augustana showing strong offensive play, taking four shots within the first 20 minutes. Despite this, it was Olivia Ralston from Illinois College who scored first in the 23rd minute, giving her team a 1-0 lead. However, Augustana responded in the 34th minute when Carson Kekelik scored to level the game at 1-1.

Shortly after tying the score, Kekelik was fouled by IC's goalkeeper Sophia Kriegesmann inside the box. This led to a penalty kick taken by Maddie Fletner of Augustana, which she successfully converted to give her team a 2-1 lead before halftime.

In the second half, Haley Sommer of Illinois College had an opportunity to equalize but narrowly missed her shot. The Vikings maintained their aggressive approach throughout the remainder of the match and managed to keep Illinois College from scoring again.

Looking ahead, the Lady Blues are set to play against Fontbonne University on Saturday, September 30th at noon in St. Louis, Missouri.
