The Illinois College women's golf team commenced their 2024 spring season with a victory against Blackburn College in a dual match held at The Links Golf Course in Jacksonville, Illinois. Despite challenging weather conditions, the Lady Blues secured a win with a team score of 341-492.
Katie Mae Milhiser and Hannah Harpster led the Lady Blues, each scoring rounds of 83. Milhiser achieved the lowest front nine score among all players with three-over 39. Harpster recorded consecutive birdies on holes seven and eight, contributing to her front nine score of 41. Emily Guest posted a solid front nine score of 42, while Shelby Seiler scored 43. Callie Hughes completed the front nine with a score of 51.
The back nine at The Links Golf Course presented more difficulty for both teams, resulting in higher scores. Harpster led the Lady Blues on the back nine with a score of 42, while Milhiser and Guest each scored 44. Seiler, the team's only left-handed player, recorded a back-nine score of 46.
Milhiser and Harpster finished tied for first place overall with their rounds of 83. Guest achieved her lowest tournament round at Illinois College with an overall score of 86. Seiler contributed to the team's total with her round of 89, culminating in an overall team score of 341. Hughes participated in her first career golf match and ended with a final round score of 108.
Looking ahead, the Lady Blues will travel to St. Louis, Missouri to compete in the Washington University Spring Invite on April 6-7 at Crescent Farms Golf Course.
