The Illinois College men's and women's track and field teams participated in the IC True Blue Open on Friday. The men's team secured fourth place with a score of 81, while the women's team finished fifth with a score of 54.5.
During the event, seniors were honored for their contributions to the program. Recognized athletes included Ronnautica Dixon, Eduardo Fulgencio, Kristina Hilmes, Kyle Little, Steven Melin, Lakeida Nichols, Gavin Raines, Marissa Sifuentez-Lewis, Tracy Slater, Connor Warhausen, Gretchen Wessel, Collin White, and Nyasia Young.
Saul Hernandez led the Blueboys with a first-place finish in the shot put (45' 7.75", 13.91 meters). Deon Rodgers achieved second place in discus (135' 7", 41.33 meters) and third in shot put (43' 4.5", 13.22 meters). Elgin Scherff finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:25.09), while Max Beyers took third in javelin (142' 7", 43.45 meters).
The Lady Blues had notable performances as well; Lakeida Nichols placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.80), Paige Nowak and Maddie Benson tied for third in pole vault (9'8", 2.95 meters), and Nyasia Young claimed third in triple jump (33'11.25", 10.34 meters). The team's relay squad also earned a third-place finish with a time of 4:13.17.
Both teams will compete next at the Greenville Select Meet on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
