The Illinois College men's golf team commenced their participation in the 2024 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championships with the first round held at Metamora Field Golf Course on Sunday afternoon. The tournament features a field of 13 institutions and includes 65 student-athletes from various regions.
After the first day, the Blueboys are positioned fifth in the overall team standings with a score of 310. Collectively, they achieved 44 pars and six birdies.
Peter Hauser led Illinois College on day one with a four-over score of 75. His front nine included a five-over score of 40, featuring a birdie on the par-5 third hole. On the back nine, Hauser improved to record a one-under score of 35, which included three birdies and two bogeys. Overall, he recorded six pars, eight bogeys, and four birdies.
Jarrett James followed with a six-over score of 77. He began his round with three consecutive pars and completed the front nine with a four-over score of 39. On the back nine, James scored two-over for a total of 38, including two birdies on holes 12 and 16. His round consisted of ten pars, four bogeys, two double-bogeys, and two birdies.
Cole Bartels and Dane Huber both concluded their rounds with an eight-over score of 79. Bartels started his round scoring four pars on the front-nine for a total of 42 but improved on the back nine to achieve one-over for a total of 37. In these final holes, he made six pars along with two bogeys and one birdie on hole eleven.
Huber opened his round similarly by achieving three straight pars leading to a four-over score of 39 on his front nine holes; however, he recorded five pars alongside four bogeys for an additional total sum reaching forty-four points upon completing all eighteen greens during this championship eventful day within Metamora's prestigious fairways—tenaciously accruing ten successful putts versus eight missteps throughout said journey among competitors alike.
Samuel Frericks rounded out Illinois College's team effort contributing an eleven over-score carded as eighty-two across varied conditions: managing consistency through registering eight pars
