The Illinois College men's swimming and diving team participated in the first day of the Midwest Conference championships at the Russell K. Osgood Pool in Grinnell, Iowa. The team ended the day in fifth place with a total of 84 points.

A significant achievement was made by Eli Eberle, who set a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.65 seconds, finishing in tenth place. Earlier during preliminaries, Eberle recorded a time of 21.76 seconds, marking it as the third-fastest time in the school's history.

Cooper Meyer emerged as the top individual performer for Illinois College by securing fourth place in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 310.55.

In relay events, Eberle contributed to a sixth-place finish for the team alongside John Masiliunas, Meyer, and Nathen Trachta in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.04. This performance included Eberle's split time of 21.89 seconds, which ranks as the fifth-best in school history.

Additionally, Masiliunas, Meyer, Eberle, and Trachta achieved seventh place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:41.36—an effort that stands as the fourth-fastest ever recorded by Illinois College.

Individually, Nathen Trachta also performed well by finishing eighth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.62.

The competition will continue on Saturday.
