Illinois College secured a 78-66 victory over Monmouth in a Midwest Conference game at Sherman Gymnasium, marking their 18th win of the season. The Blueboys now stand at 18-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play, while the Fighting Scots are 12-9 and 6-6.
Buzz Ritzel was instrumental for Illinois College, scoring 20 points, securing eight rebounds, and making three steals. Josh Harris contributed with 18 points, five rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Jake Mazrimas added 10 points and eight rebounds, with Nestor Daboin leading all players with 12 rebounds.
The Blueboys established their largest lead of the first half at 16 points when Jahkeis Tippett hit a jumper just before halftime. They maintained a lead of 45-22 going into the break.
Throughout the second half, Illinois College kept their lead intact. Although Monmouth narrowed the gap to three points at one stage, they did not pose a significant threat thereafter.
Illinois College will next travel to Lawrence for a game scheduled on Saturday with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m.
