The Illinois College baseball team faced off against Beloit College in a Midwest Conference double-header at Joe Brooks Field on Saturday. The Blueboys secured a win in the first game with an 8-3 score but fell short in the second game, losing 2-20. This result places their overall record at 16-11 and their conference play record at 3-8.
In the first game, Louie Bartletti was instrumental for Illinois College, contributing to an 8-3 victory. Jack McGuire made his eighth start of the season, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six batters. "With two outs, Adam Passmore gave the Blueboys their first lead of the game at 4-3 by slicing a two-run double to the right center field gap that drove in Ryne Mapes and Ryan Huskey," noted a report from Illinois College.
Beloit initially took an early lead with JT Tamburini's solo home run in the third inning. However, Illinois College responded with key plays including Bartletti's tenth home run of the season and Tyler Barker's homer which extended their lead to 6-3. Anthony Buonaura closed out the game effectively despite some challenges.
The second game saw Illinois College struggle as Beloit dominated with a final score of 20-2. Despite efforts from players like Ryan Huskey and Justus Lee, who hit his first collegiate home run, IC couldn't recover after falling behind early. "In the top of the fifth, the Buccaneers blew open the game with a 10-run inning that made the score 1-18," highlighted another section of their recap.
Illinois College will next face Knox College for another double-header scheduled for Tuesday in Galesburg, Illinois.
