FOIA Request to Menard County Sheriff's Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025. The request was made by the Sangamon Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we sought records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, specifically a list of all arrests from January 1, 2024 till December 31, 2024. The fields requested for each arrest record included the arrestee's name, arrest date, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to these public records is essential for us at Sangamon Sun to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
