FOIA Request to Menard County Clerk Regarding 2025 Consolidated Elections Candidates on January 14, 2025.
We at Sangamon Sun, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, have formally requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140). The request was specifically for an electronic format list of candidates running in the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections.
The details we sought include each candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the office they are vying for. As a media outlet, access to public records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a positive response from the Menard County Clerk's office as we continue our mission of keeping the public informed about local government affairs.
