I’m taking the initiative to further understand businesses in the 95th District. The mission of “Mike on Main Street” business tours is to hear directly from business owners and workers so I can better serve their needs to improve the business climate in Illinois.

Last week, I met with Mike O’Shea from O’Shea Builders in Springfield to learn more about the business operations. During the tour, we discussed the significant impact of public policy and how it affects business costs, insurance rates, employees, and opportunities.

One challenge this company has is finding qualified tradesmen for employment. Mr. O’Shea said they have several rewarding positions available to individuals with valid certifications from trade schools. Additionally, O’Shea Builders has partnered with Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) in an effort to attract good-paying jobs right here in Illinois.

O’Shea Builders has grown into the leading commercial construction-services company in Central Illinois, earning the “Top 100 Contractor in the Midwest” designation for the last ten years.
