Illinois College athletes earn top honors at Midwest Conference Championships

Illinois College athletes Dylan Doss and Sam Stimler were recognized with significant awards at the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which concluded on Saturday at the Huff Athletic Center in Monmouth, Illinois. Doss was named Athlete of the Year, while Stimler received the Newcomer of the Year honor.

The Illinois College Blueboys secured fourth place in the team standings with a total of 100.5 points. Cornell emerged as the overall champion with 120 points.

Doss excelled by winning two events. He claimed victory in the long jump on Friday and followed it up by taking first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.61 seconds.

In another highlight for Illinois College, Adam Hernandez won the title in the 60-meter hurdles, completing the race in 8.42 seconds.

The Blueboys also triumphed in team events, capturing first place in the 4x400-meter relay. The team consisted of Doss, Jack Bacon, Hernandez, and Stimler, who finished with a time of 3:23.09.

In field events, Deon Rodgers achieved second place in the weight throw with a distance of 17.42 meters, while Melvin Hodge secured fourth place with a throw measuring 16.91 meters.

Jacob Kollman contributed to Illinois College's success by finishing fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.20 meters. Additionally, the Distance Medley Relay team comprising Ryan Gerdes, Will Bateman, Caden Dettmer, and Robby Biesenthal added points by finishing seventh with a time of 10:58.03.
