FOIA Request to Illinois State Board of Elections Regarding State Agency Contracts with Vendors on March 24, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in government, we at Sangamon Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois State Board of Elections. Our request seeks detailed documentation and records related to the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between this state agency and their vendors during January of the 2023 fiscal year.

Specifically, we are requesting access to records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations associated with these contracts. This information is crucial for our reporting as it helps us hold public institutions accountable and provide comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.

As members of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies, we leverage Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to shed light on government actions. We believe that access to these public records will enhance our ability to inform the American electorate effectively.

We have also requested a fee waiver given our role as media professionals involved in gathering and disseminating news to the public. Accessing these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities and ensuring transparency within public institutions.
