FOIA Request to Illinois Department of Natural Resources Regarding State Agency Contracts with Vendors on March 24, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Sangamon Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Our request seeks documentation and details concerning the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between this state agency and their vendors during January of the 2023 fiscal year.
Specifically, we are interested in records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts. This information is crucial for us as members of the media to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for the public.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. As such, we have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information to the public. Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
Our aim is to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate. We look forward to receiving the requested information from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and will continue our efforts to provide transparency in governmental affairs.
