The Illinois College softball team faced off against Illinois Wesleyan in a non-conference doubleheader at Jessica Kamp Field, resulting in a split outcome. The Lady Blues secured a 7-0 victory in the first game, while the Titans claimed a narrow 2-1 win in the second.
Following these matches, the Lady Blues hold an overall record of 9-9, whereas Illinois Wesleyan stands at 7-5.
In the first game, Illinois College quickly took control with four runs in the opening inning. Taylor Henry initiated scoring with an RBI single. Kendall Cole followed with a two-run double, and Cambria Currie concluded the inning with another RBI single. Additional runs were added in the second inning due to an error by Illinois Wesleyan that allowed Kayla Serpa and Henry to score. Raegan Rezba scored IC's final run on a sacrifice fly by Henry in the fourth inning.
Jordan Closs delivered an impressive performance for IC, pitching a four-hit shutout and striking out five batters. Despite loading the bases with no outs in the fifth inning, Closs managed to prevent any scoring from Illinois Wesleyan.
The second game featured strong pitching from both teams. The Titans broke through with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning. The Lady Blues responded when Brooke Loveall hit a solo home run but could not score further.
Taylor Henry pitched for IC throughout this match as well, allowing eight hits and recording three strikeouts. Offensively, Loveall and Shelby Seiler each contributed two hits for Illinois College.
Looking ahead, the Lady Blues will play Millikin at Jessica Kamp Field on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
