The Illinois College baseball team achieved a successful doubleheader sweep against Cornell College on Saturday at Ash Park Field. The team's victories improved their overall record to 18-11 and 6-4 in the Midwest Conference, while Cornell's record fell to 9-16 and 2-6 in conference play.
In the first game, the Blueboys secured a 12-4 victory. They scored three runs early in the first inning and extended their lead with four more runs in the third. Connor Hennemann contributed significantly, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Ryne Mapes, Nolan Decker, and Ketch Mills also added to the score with multiple hits and RBIs. Pitcher Jack McGuire played a crucial role, completing the game with just four earned runs allowed over nine innings.
The second game saw Illinois College continue their momentum, resulting in a 6-1 win. Louie Bartletti sparked the offense with a solo home run and two runs scored. Sean Raffa maintained a perfect batting performance, going 4-for-4 with a double, while Nolan Decker and Jon Tate furthered the team's advantage with their respective hits. Charlie Lardi performed a complete-game pitching effort, striking out nine and allowing just one run.
Moving forward, the Blueboys aim to complete the series sweep in the next matchup, scheduled for tomorrow at 12:00 pm.
