The Illinois College softball team swept Lake Forest in a doubleheader at Mohr Field this past Sunday. Illinois College (IC) secured a 5-0 victory in the first game, followed by a 10-4 win in the second game. These victories bring the Lady Blues to a 15-15 overall record and a 6-2 standing in conference play, matching Lake Forest's current conference record of 6-2 with an overall of 14-12.
In the first game, Jordan Closs threw a shutout, allowing five hits and striking out six batters. This marks her record at 7-3 overall and 4-0 in Midwest Conference contests. IC took the lead in the second inning by scoring three runs. Key contributions came from Raegan Rezba, Shelby Seiler, and Brooke Loveall, who helped secure the advantage with crucial hits and runs.
The Lady Blues extended their lead with two additional runs in the fourth inning, driven by Seiler, who led the offense with three hits.
In the second game, IC jumped ahead by scoring four runs in the first inning. Although Lake Forest responded with three runs in the third inning, IC pulled away with six runs in the sixth inning. The highlight of the inning was a three-run triple by Seiler, adding to RBI contributions from Kendall Cole and Elysia Hand.
Cambria Currie secured the win by pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief, after starter Taylor Henry. Avery Fritz pitched the final two innings, while Hand contributed two hits, including a triple.
The Lady Blues' next challenge will take them out of conference play when they travel to Eureka for a doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
