Illinois College splits doubleheader against Lawrence University; prepares for Sunday's crucial game

In Jacksonville, Illinois, a doubleheader between Illinois College and Lawrence University highlighted strong pitching performances on Saturday. The teams split the games, setting the stage for a decisive rubber match on Sunday.

In the opener, Illinois College secured a comeback victory with a 4-3 win. Nathan Walker played a key role, finishing with two hits including the winning RBI single. Starting pitcher Charlie Lardi threw six innings, allowing only two unearned runs and recording eight strikeouts. Andrew Wieneke, who entered in relief, allowed one run in three innings, securing his fifth victory of the season.

The second contest saw Lawrence University prevail 6-2, with Illinois College initially leading after a lively first inning. Despite efforts to rally in the final inning, the Blueboys couldn't close the gap. Starter Dawson Vernier pitched seven innings and conceded two runs before Branson Shaw, who ended up taking the loss, took over. Louie Bartletti led his team with two hits and a walk.

The teams will face off again in a crucial rubber match at Joe Brooks Field on Sunday at noon.
