The Illinois State Police (ISP), in partnership with the Decatur Police Department, the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, has launched the Illinois Trafficking Enforcement Group (ITEG). The new group aims to enhance efforts against human trafficking in the state. ITEG will operate similarly to other ISP task forces that address drug trafficking and will involve both local and state partners. The group will also collaborate with community organizations and health services to provide support for trafficking victims.
According to ISP, “Human trafficking and sexual exploitation are much more pervasive than many of us realize. Every day, even here in Illinois, even in ‘safe’ communities, human trafficking happens.”
Illinois State Representative Jeff Keicher expressed his support for the initiative. “As an advocate for victims and a legislator who has backed several pieces of legislation to crack down on traffickers and support victims, State Representative Jeff Keicher said he is pleased to see ISP forming this new enforcement group.”
Members of the public who suspect someone may be a victim of trafficking are encouraged to call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888, text 233733, or email ISP at [email protected].
Keicher was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois' 70th House District in 2018, taking over from Robert W. Pritchard.
