Beni Rae Harmony, a former reporter at WICS-ABC20, announced her resignation on social media platform X after being suspended for airing what she described as a nonpartisan tribute to Charlie Kirk. The segment aired on a Friday following Kirk's assassination.
"Effective immediately, I have resigned," said Rae Harmony. "Many in the mainstream media have been fired or punished for mocking his assassination. I believe I am the first to be targeted for honoring him on air. My resignation is guided by values that are essential to who I am, which I refuse to set aside in order to keep a job. I choose my faith and love of country, and always will. God Bless Charlie Kirk and his beautiful family, and God Bless these United States of America."
According to Harmony's post on X, the tribute lasted 1 minute and 17 seconds and was intended as an emotional acknowledgment of Kirk’s influence and her personal connection to him. She emphasized that it was not meant as political criticism or support. Following the broadcast, Harmony said she was suspended by WICS-ABC20.
The New York Post reports that in her tribute, Harmony said Charlie Kirk had been her mentor and first boss early in her media career, teaching her confidence and belief in herself. She recalled his frequent advice: "When conversations stop happening. When individuals become wordless, that's when violence begins." She concluded the tribute by thanking him: "Thank you, CK, you changed my life."
Harmony has resigned from WICS-ABC20, stating she would not compromise her core values—her faith and love of country—for job security. She expressed that her decision was "guided by values that are essential to who I am." Harmony also claimed she might be the first media figure targeted for honoring Kirk on air rather than mocking his assassination.
Following her resignation, Harmony’s profile was reportedly removed from the WICS-ABC20 website. On social media, she expressed gratitude for her community in Springfield and sent blessings to Charlie Kirk's family and the United States.
