State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) has been recognized as the 2025 Legislator of the Year by the Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance Commissions. The award was presented during the association’s annual banquet, honoring her leadership and advocacy for veterans in Illinois.
“Receiving this award from the County Veterans Assistance Commissions is truly an honor,” said Senator Sally Turner. “Our VACs are on the front lines serving veterans and their families, connecting them to care, benefits, and support. I am grateful for their work and proud to partner with them to remove barriers and deliver results.”
The association highlighted Turner's legislative efforts aimed at supporting veterans. Among these were Senate Bill 39, which became law and exempts tiny homes built for homeless or at-risk veterans by nonprofits from certain Electric Vehicle infrastructure requirements, and Senate Bill 1518, which sought to provide a discount on lifetime fishing licenses for Illinois veterans.
“This recognition reflects the incredible teamwork it takes to move good legislation forward,” continued Senator Sally Turner. “I will continue to make veterans’ issues a top priority, and I look forward to working with VACs and other veteran service organizations to make sure the men and women who served our country receive the support and respect they deserve.”
The Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance Commissions supports county VAC offices throughout Illinois by offering training, coordination, education for service officers, and maintaining communication with government partners at various levels.
Turner has represented Illinois' 44th Senate District since her election in 2021 as a Republican, succeeding Bill Brady.
