How much has Oak Park ESD 97 overspent over the past 10 years?

Oak Park Elementary School District 97 accumulated $35.81 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a Sangamon Sun analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Oak Park ESD 97 reported 39.3 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went up 41.7 percent. The resulting deficit grew by 97.7 percent from 2008 to 2017.
