Former state university employee Osborne paid in $4K to pension fund, could collect $103K in retirement

Former state university employee Robert Osborne, who retired in November 2017, saved $4,228 toward a pension over 13 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Osborne would collect as much as $103,333, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Sangamon Sun.

The projection assumes Osborne received $2,172 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Osborne will have already received $4,409 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
