State Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) is still astonished about Abraham Lincoln's link to Sangamon County and the role it played in American history.
Butler shared information he'd found about Breckenridge's connection with Lincoln in a June 1 Facebook post.
"Explore the #New95th! Our area's connection to Abe still amazes me," Butler wrote in the post.
In his Facebook post, Butler shared a link to The State Journal-Register news article that discussed a monument to Lincoln near Breckenridge. The article described the monument as "out of sight" and "nearly forgotten" but noted it was one of 36 markers installed by the Daughters of the American Revolution that were placed on the path Lincoln and his legal companions traveled on the state's old Eighth Judicial Circuit.
In January, Butler announced in a Facebook video he would run for re-election in this cycle, but for the newly-drawn 95th District.
In a Facebook post on May 31, Butler shared a map that outlined what the new 95th district would look like, and which counties were included. Those counties are Sangamon, Macon, and Christian. In the post, Butler said he's the only one running for the seat who lives in the district. The primary is scheduled for June 28.
