The Illinois College men's basketball team marked their seniors' final regular season home game with a decisive victory over Lake Forest, winning 107-91 in a Midwest Conference matchup at Sherman Gymnasium. This win brings Illinois College's record to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in conference play, while Lake Forest's record drops to 8-15 overall and 6-8 in the conference.
Seniors Jake Mazrimas, Nestor Daboin, and Jahkeis Tippett played pivotal roles in securing the win. The trio combined for a total of 61 points. Mazrimas led with an impressive performance, scoring 35 points along with seven rebounds and four assists. Daboin contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, while Tippett added 11 points and matched his teammates with seven rebounds.
The team's success was also supported by junior players Josh Harris and Buzz Ritzel. Harris scored 26 points and provided four assists, while Ritzel added another 12 points and six rebounds to the team's tally.
Lake Forest's effort was led by Alex Knight who scored 33 points, followed by Alex Forowycz with 28 points. Despite tying the game early at five apiece, Illinois College took control shortly after, leading by as much as 17 points during the first half. Lake Forest managed to reduce the deficit to nine points by halftime.
In the second half, Lake Forest narrowed the lead to three points at one stage but a crucial 9-0 run by Illinois College put the game out of reach for their opponents.
Illinois College is set to conclude their regular season on Wednesday with an away game against Knox at 5:30 p.m., where a win would secure them at least a share of the league title.
