A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Leland Grove City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at Sangamon Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we asked for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. Specifically, we sought a list of all council members with the following details: Name, Title, Year Appointed, Term (2 or 4 years), and Term Expire Date. We preferred these records in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We emphasized this in our request and also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in gathering and reporting news to the public.
We are eagerly awaiting a response from the Leland Grove City Council regarding this request. This information will aid us greatly in our mission to keep the public informed about their local government's activities and operations.
