A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Petersburg City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request, made by us at Sangamon Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought specific details about the city council members.
The requested information includes a list of all council members with their respective names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates. This information is crucial for our ongoing reporting and analysis of local government activities.
As a media organization, we believe in the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions. Access to such public records enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. This act provides for access to public records while ensuring that personal privacy is protected.
We await a response from the Petersburg City Council regarding this request and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
