Arthur Community Unit School District #305 Board of Education met Nov. 20

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Beth Wiley at 6:00 p.m. on November 20, 2024 in the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School Cafeteria with the following members in attendance: Beth Wiley, Suzi Berkich, Brock Casteel, Monica Green, Kristie Mechling, Ryan Nettles, and Justin Wierman. Mr. Shannon Cheek was also present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

In public comment Mitch Flemming spoke about the results of the referendum. Dave McGrath also spoke about the referendum results during public comment.

A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Ryan Nettles to approve the consent agenda as presented which included: October 16, 2024 Board Meeting minutes, bills of $1,161,613.16, the Treasurer's Report, First Reading of Press 117, and donations. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Justin Wierman, seconded by Ryan Nettles to approve to the Tentative Tax Levy. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

The board discussed Facility Naming Rights.

The board discussed IASB Resolutions.

A motion was made by Kristie Mechling, seconded by Suzi Berkich to approve the application for a Matching Grant through ISBE. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Ryan Nettles to authorize BLDD Architects to submit an amendment to the 10-year HLS survey for District Wide Security Cameras and Server Replacements in the amount of $100,000. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

Principal Reports were presented.

Superintendent's Report was presented.

The board discussed options for the High School going forward.

During Board Comment, Beth Wiley thanked Mr. Cheek for his work on the referendum.

A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to go into closed session at 7:53 pm under the Opening Meetings Act for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2( c )(1). Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Suzi Berkich, seconded by Justin Wierman to leave executive session at 8:25 pm. Upon roll, all present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Suzi Berkich to accept executive session minutes as read in executive session. Upon roll, all members present yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Suzi Berkich to approve the personnel report as presented which includes: accepting certified staff letter of intent to retire from Arthur Grade School Physical Education Teacher Derik Eaton, approving letter of resignation from Lovington Grade School Title I teacher Jenny Rau, approving a leave of absence request from Lovington Grade School 4th Grade Teacher Jessica Hopkins, accepting non-certified staff letter of resignation from Lovington Grade School Administrative Assistance Faezah Parsa and approving Mikayla Graham to serve as a paraprofessional at Lovington Grade School. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Justin Wierman, seconded by Monica Green to adjourn at 8:25 pm. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
