FOIA Request to Logan County Sheriff's Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.
We at Sangamon Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was made for these records to be provided in an electronic format.
The records we are seeking include a list of all arrests that took place from January 1, 2024, till December 31, 2024. We have asked for the following fields in this list: the arrestee's name, the date of their arrest, their gender and race, their date of birth, and the crime they committed.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await further communication from the Logan County Sheriff's Office regarding this request.
