Illinois College men's swimming team finishes fourth at MWC Championships

The Illinois College men's swimming and diving team secured a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Conference Championships, held at the Russell K. Osgood Pool and Deck/Natatorium in Grinnell, Iowa. Head coach Christopher Sykes received the Coach of the Year award for his leadership throughout an undefeated dual season.

The Blueboys achieved five top-10 finishes during the final day of competition. Cade Emerick and Xaiver Applegate set the pace by placing seventh and tenth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with times of 18:05.68 and 19:24.42, respectively.

In other events, John Masiliunas finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.29, while Applegate placed sixteenth in the same event at 2:18.59. Nathen Trachta earned eighth place in the 200-yard butterfly by completing it in 2:02.31.

Eli Eberle (47.55 seconds) and Scottie Nicotra (47.71 seconds) took twelfth and fourteenth positions in the 100-yard freestyle, respectively, while Blaine Gretencord finished fourteenth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:39.95.

The team's performance was rounded off by a fifth-place finish from their 400-yard freestyle relay team comprising Eberle, Masiliunas, Trachta, and Nicotra with a combined time of 3:15.00.

Coach Sykes' recognition as Coach of the Year highlights his successful guidance over an impressive season culminating in this weekend's results.
