Travis Weaver, Illinois State Representative from the 93rd District | Illinois General Assembly
According to the Illinois General Assembly site, the legislature summarized the bill's official text as follows: "Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that homestead property that is owned and used as a primary residence by a Gold Star Parent is exempt from taxation under the Code. Effective immediately."
The following is our breakdown, based on the actual bill text, and may include interpretation to clarify its provisions.
In essence, this bill amends the Property Tax Code to provide a tax exemption for homestead properties owned and used as a primary residence by Gold Star Parents, defined as parents of veterans killed in the line of duty. This exemption begins with the 2025 taxable year and is not available if the veteran's unmarried surviving spouse receives an existing exemption under related sections. Eligible taxpayers must reapply annually during the county's designated application period, and eligibility can be verified by the assessor through application or other reasonable methods. The bill specifies no state reimbursement is required for mandates created by this section. It takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
Travis Weaver has proposed one other bill since the beginning of the 104th session.
Weaver graduated from The University of Alabama in 2015 with a BA.
Travis Weaver is currently serving in the Illinois State House, representing the state's 93rd House District. He replaced previous state representative Norine Hammond in 2023.
Bills in Illinois follow a multi-step legislative process, beginning with introduction in either the House or Senate, followed by committee review, floor debates, and votes in both chambers before reaching the governor for approval or veto. The General Assembly operates on a biennial schedule, and while typically thousands of bills are introduced each session, only a fraction successfully pass through the process to become law.
