Representative Coffey has announced the return of his Summer Reading Club for students in the 95th District. This initiative, which was a success last year, is designed to encourage children from kindergarten through sixth grade to enhance their reading skills during their summer break.
"The Summer Reading Club challenges elementary students who are currently in K-6th grade to read 8 books during their summer break," said Rep. Coffey. Books of 150 pages or more count as two books and can be listed twice on the reading list.
The program culminates in a special mid-August pizza party for those who successfully complete the reading challenge and return the form by the August 1st deadline. "Last year we saw several students complete the reading of 8 books and they had a blast at the pizza party!" recalled Rep. Coffey.
In addition to enjoying pizza, participating students will receive an official certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives recognizing their commitment to reading.
