The Lady Blues softball team participated in the first day of the 2023 Midwest Conference (MWC) Tournament on Friday in Jacksonville, Illinois. The team experienced mixed results, securing a victory against Cornell College and then facing defeat against Grinnell College.

In their opening game, Illinois College emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 against Cornell College. Julia Drake was instrumental for her team, pitching all seven innings and achieving seven strikeouts while conceding only one earned run. Cheyenne Anderson made a significant impact by hitting a home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning, which secured the win for Illinois College.

However, in their second game of the day, Illinois College struggled against Grinnell College. The Pioneers took an early lead with four runs in the first inning and eventually won with a score of 11-2. Despite efforts from the Lady Blues to close the gap, they were unable to overcome Grinnell's advantage.

Illinois College is set to play Lake Forest College in an elimination match on Saturday at 10:00 AM. The winner will advance to compete against Grinnell College for a chance at claiming the MWC Title.
