The Illinois College men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Midwest Conference (MWC) Championship held at Grinnell College over the weekend. Both teams finished in sixth place, with the men's team scoring 62 points and the women's team scoring 55.5 points.
Deon Rodgers emerged as a key performer for the Blueboys, securing the MWC championship title in discus with a mark of 151'2" (46.09 meters). Rodgers also placed fourth in shot put with a mark of 42'11.5" (13.09 meters).
Saul Hernandez delivered a notable performance by finishing second in shot put with a throw of 46'2" (14.07 meters). Jackson Lee had an impressive showing, securing third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.57 seconds and fourth place in pole vault clearing 13'5.75" (4.11 meters).
For the Lady Blues, Nyasia Young claimed the MWC title in triple jump with a leap of 35'4" (10.77 meters). Paige Nowak led in field events by winning the MWC title in pole vault after clearing a height of 10'5" (3.19 meters).
Other notable finishers included Lakeida Nichols, who placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.55 seconds, and Kristina Hilmes, who secured third place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.52 seconds.
Both teams are set to compete next at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Meet on Thursday, May 18.
