Illinois families are experiencing significant increases in grocery prices. According to the USDA, food prices rose by 25% from 2020 to 2023, with some staple items seeing even higher increases.

Milk prices have increased by 23%, with the average price being $3.32 per gallon in 2020. Bread has seen a rise of 28%, with white bread averaging $1.54 per loaf in the same year. Beef prices climbed by 31%, as ground beef averaged $4.12 per pound in 2020. Egg prices saw the most substantial increase at 46%, with eggs averaging $1.51 per dozen in 2020.

In 2024, these rising costs continue to impact families across Illinois, leading to what is described as "inflation sticker shock."
