Illinois College's men's basketball team secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament after a decisive victory over Grinnell in the Midwest Conference Tournament championship game. The Blueboys overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to win 108-84, marking their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The top-seeded Illinois College improved their record to 23-4, while Grinnell ended their season with a 19-7 record. The Blueboys will find out their NCAA Tournament location on Monday.
The game featured contrasting halves. In the first half, Grinnell's press forced Illinois College into 18 turnovers, resulting in a 58-43 lead for the Pioneers at halftime. However, Illinois College turned the game around in the second half by committing only nine turnovers and outscoring Grinnell 65-26.
Buzz Ritzel played a crucial role for Illinois College, leading with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Josh Harris contributed significantly with 30 points, while Jake Mazrimas recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
