ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Community Steps Up To Make Logan County Fair Special For Memorial Behavioral Health Clients

Doghug

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.

For Karen Deany, the smiles and excitement from her clients are the best part of the Logan County Fair held in August each year.

“They love going to the Fair,” the developmental training supervisor at Memorial Behavioral Health – Lincoln said. “They really enjoy seeing the farm animals and walking around.”

For the past twenty years, the Knights of Columbus have helped cover the cost of clients who attend for a couple of hours, tour the fair and enjoy a corn dog and soda. Several vendors open up early for the clients including the Ritchhart Mobile Zoo, which is a client favorite because of the petting zoo.

“Our funds are used for local support, and we take pride in supporting Memorial Behavioral Health clients,” said Roger McCall with Knights of Columbus. “We know they take great joy in attending the Logan County Fair. All you have to do is look at their expressions.”

Nearly 130 clients attended the fair this month. Normally, they attend day training at Memorial Behavioral Health – Lincoln, which includes career building and basic skills classes, hobby and discovery rooms and paid work opportunities.

After their fair visit, the clients take time in the discovery room to talk about their favorite moments from the fair and write and illustrate thank you cards.
