St. John's Hospital Springfield Illinois issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.

On Thursday, Nov. 7, HSHS St. John’s Hospital will give a progressive, behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital as part of the Spirit of Philanthropy Passport to Health Care event. The tour will feature HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital, HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Prairie Heart Institute (PHI) and the new St. John’s College of Nursing Mobile Simulation Lab.

“Spirit of Philanthropy is going to be a wonderful opportunity for people to come to the hospital and get a behind the scenes look at all of the things that we offer here at St. Johns,” said Bev Neisler, chief development officer, HSHS St. John’s Foundation. “Contributions have made so many things possible and this event is really going to highlight all of those things that make us special.”

The children’s hospital tour will include pediatric rehab in the women and children’s clinic, the recently remodeled pediatric units, the pediatric healing garden. Dr. Beau Batton, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) medical director, St. John’s Children’s Hospital, will also give a short presentation on the NICU renovations.

In St. John’s, attendees will visit the surgery center and operating rooms, the sculpture collection, the oncology center and the college of nursing’s mobile simulation lab.

At Prairie Heart, the tour will feature the heart failure clinic, electrophysiology lab and cardiac rehabilitation. In addition to the tour, there will be a hands-only CPR demonstration as well as a brief talk with PHI president Dr. John Scherschel.

“I think it is a great opportunity for all of you to get to know St. John’s even better and, also be able to see how your dollars can support our great foundation,” said E.J. Kuiper, president and CEO of HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

The event will kick off at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the Dove Conference Center in the Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. Anyone interested in attending the event can RSVP by calling 217-814-5160 or emailing angela.mcilroy@hshs.org. The deadline to RSVP is Friday, Nov. 1.
