On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress made a historic resolution to adopt the U.S. Navy. Today, we celebrate the 248th anniversary of this momentous occasion, as our U.S. Navy stands proud as a symbol of strength and dedication.

The establishment of the U.S. Navy was a significant milestone in American history. As stated by the Naval History and Heritage Command, the Congress resolved to create "a swift sailing vessel, to carry ten carriage guns, and a proportionable number of swivels, with eighty men, be fitted, with all possible dispatch, for a cruise of three months." This marked the birth of a naval force that would go on to protect our nation's interests and secure our freedom.

Throughout the years, countless individuals have served in the United States Navy, dedicating their lives to safeguarding our country. One such individual was President John F. Kennedy, who famously said, "I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy.'"

The U.S. Navy has played a vital role in defending our nation and promoting peace across the globe. Its sailors have faced numerous challenges and have always risen to the occasion, demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment. From protecting trade routes to conducting humanitarian missions, the U.S. Navy has consistently showcased its capabilities and dedication to duty.

As we celebrate the U.S. Navy's birthday, let us not forget the sacrifices made by those who have served and continue to serve. Their bravery and selflessness deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. The U.S. Navy's legacy is one of honor, integrity, and service to the nation, and we owe a debt of gratitude to all those who have contributed to its storied history.

As President Kennedy once said, "I served in the United States Navy." Today, we honor and salute all those who have proudly worn the uniform of the U.S. Navy, past and present. Happy Birthday to our U.S. Navy, a beacon of strength and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the American people.
