State Representative Mike Coffey recently convened a Veterans Advisory Council meeting in Springfield, aiming to understand the needs and concerns of local veterans. The gathering took place at American Legion Post #32, where discussions centered on veteran benefits, legislation, and expectations from lawmakers.

The meeting highlighted both strengths and areas for improvement in state support for veterans. Rep. Coffey emphasized his commitment to enhancing the lives of Illinois veterans and their families. "Our community owes a profound debt of gratitude to our veterans for their courage and sacrifices in defending the freedoms we cherish in the United States," he stated. "It is my top priority to support our local veterans through legislation that not only improves their quality of life but also acknowledges their significant contributions to the 95th District, Illinois, and the United States of America."

Rep. Coffey expressed satisfaction with the progress of his bill aimed at increasing access to college scholarships for children of U.S. military veterans. The bill successfully passed through the Illinois House of Representatives with bipartisan backing.

House Bill 4733 extends eligibility for honorary scholarships to children of veterans who served during the invasion of Panama between December 20, 1989, and January 31, 1990.

As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Rep. Coffey encourages military veterans and their families to voice their needs regarding services provided by the state. He invites them to share feedback through an online form that will be sent directly to his office.
