The Illinois College women's softball team secured its first win of the season with an 8-1 victory over Ursinus on Sunday. The team's second game against Dubuque was cut short due to heavy rain, leaving them three outs away from an official game as they led 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Consequently, all statistics from this incomplete game will not be recorded.
In their match against Ursinus, the Lady Blues made a strong start with five runs in the first inning. Key contributions included a two-run double by Jaycie Edwards and a run-scoring single by Elysia Hand. Emma Hardiek also contributed by drawing a bases-loaded walk that brought in another run, while an error added to their tally.
Julia Drake pitched effectively for Illinois College, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out six batters over five innings. Offensively, both Edwards and Claudia Adam drove in two runs each. Calynn Gicante and Edwards collected two hits apiece, and Cheyenne Anderson reached base twice via walks.
Before weather conditions halted play against Dubuque, Kendall Cole had a standout performance with three hits including a double. Gicante added two hits and an RBI, while Taylor Henry scored twice and pitched four innings with three strikeouts.
Looking ahead, Illinois College is set to face Carlow at 10:00 a.m., followed by Aurora at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
