Millikin University secured a doubleheader victory against Illinois College on Friday at Workman Field in Decatur, Illinois. The non-conference games ended with scores of 3-0 and 9-1 in favor of Millikin.
In the first game, both teams remained scoreless for five innings due to strong pitching performances by Julia Drake from Illinois College and Charly Warlow from Millikin. The deadlock was broken in the sixth inning when Millikin scored three runs, securing their win. Despite allowing only five hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, Drake took the loss. Cheyenne Anderson, Emma Hardiek, and Taylor Henry each contributed hits for Illinois College.
The second game saw Millikin take an early lead with four runs before Illinois College responded with a run in the fourth inning. This came after Allison Mortland reached base on an error that allowed Claudia Adam to score. However, Millikin extended their lead with additional runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Kayla Serpa, Calynn Gicante, and Jaycie Edwards recorded hits for Illinois College. Taylor Henry pitched the initial three innings, conceding four runs (three earned) on five hits. Hannah Crouch pitched the last two innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits.
