Illinois College's softball team achieved a doubleheader sweep against Eureka College, with scores of 9-1 and 13-5, at Jessica Kamp Field. This victory advanced the Lady Blues to a 15-18 record while Eureka moved to 9-23.
In the first game, Illinois College overcame an initial run by Eureka in the first inning. Allison Mortland scored off Jaycie Edwards' sacrifice fly, followed by two more runs in the second inning from Kayla Serpa's single that brought in Mortland and Emma Nicholson. The Lady Blues expanded their lead significantly in the fourth inning with six runs. Edwards initiated this streak with a single that scored Calynn Gicante and Mortland. Elysia Hand added two RBIs with a base hit scoring Lizzie Snow and Cheyenne Anderson, while Brooke Loveall secured additional runs for Claudia Adam and Hand.
Pitcher Julia Drake improved her record to 8-8 with six strikeouts and one earned run. Edwards achieved three RBIs, whereas Loveall, Hand, and Serpa each contributed two RBIs.
The second game mirrored the offensive strength seen earlier as Illinois College continued its dominance over Eureka within five innings again. Anderson began strong with a double scoring Mortland, followed by Adam who collected three RBIs from a triple. Four base hits facilitated five more runs in the second inning for IC. To prevent any comeback attempts by Eureka, Nicholson grounded out for an RBI in the fourth inning, while Grace Braun capped off scoring with another single.
Hannah Crouch secured her fifth win of the season (5-4) as pitcher during this match-up. Adam achieved three RBIs again; meanwhile Hand and Nicholson both provided two RBIs each.
Looking ahead to their next challenge on Tuesday at Jessica Kamp Field against Knox College marks these final home games before entering Midwest Conference action where they will face off starting at 3:00 PM.
