The Illinois College softball team and Fontbonne University each secured a win during their non-conference doubleheader at ABC Ballpark in St. Louis on Saturday. The Lady Blues of Illinois College took the first game with a 7-2 victory, while Fontbonne responded by winning the second game 4-3.

Following these results, Illinois College holds an overall record of 5-10, whereas Fontbonne stands at 5-14.

In the first game, Illinois College established dominance early on by scoring four runs in the second inning. Key contributions came from Allison Mortland's two-run double and Cheyenne Anderson's triple that added to the tally. The Lady Blues further extended their lead with three more runs in the fifth inning through Calynn Gicante’s single and Clauda Adam’s two-run hit.

Julia Drake was instrumental for Illinois College, allowing five hits over seven innings and striking out three batters to earn her third win of the season. Offensively, Mortland, Serpa, Gicante, and Adam each recorded two hits for the Lady Blues.

In contrast, Game 2 saw Fontbonne mount a comeback after falling behind by three runs in the third inning. Although IC initially led due to Serpa's two-run single following an error-induced run by Adam, Fontbonne managed to turn things around with timely hitting in later innings.

Hannah Crouch took the loss for Illinois College after pitching two innings where she allowed two runs on two hits. Taylor Henry started for IC and pitched four innings giving up five hits and one unearned run.

Illinois College is set to face off against Illinois Wesleyan next Tuesday in another doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
