The Illinois College men's soccer team secured a decisive victory against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) on Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Blueboys achieved a 3-0 shutout, enhancing their season record to 3-2.
In the early moments of the match, the Blueboys displayed an aggressive offensive strategy with two initial shots on goal. Albert Nimako opened the scoring in the 15th minute by converting a corner kick from Jason Hernandez, giving Illinois College a 1-0 advantage.
Reed Rogers further extended this lead just over ten minutes later with a successful shot that bypassed UHSP's diving goalkeeper, allowing Illinois College to carry a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The final goal for Illinois College came in the 87th minute when Eric Espinoza scored with assistance from Hernandez. The Blueboys dominated offensively, outshooting UHSP 21-10, with eleven of those shots on target.
First-year goalkeeper TJ Esseily made his debut for Illinois College and contributed five saves to secure the shutout victory.
Illinois College is set to host Augustana College (IL) on Tuesday, September 12 at England Stadium.
