Illinois College track team excels on opening day of Midwest Conference Championship

The Illinois College men's track and field team had a notable performance during the first day of the 2024 Midwest Conference Outdoor Championship held at England Stadium in Jacksonville, Illinois. The team achieved two runner-up finishes in final events.

Dylan Doss secured second place in the long jump with a leap of 7.29 meters, while Jackson Lee claimed second place in the pole vault by clearing 4.45 meters. In addition, Xander Moushon finished third in the hammer throw with a toss measuring 49.24 meters.

In preliminary rounds, the Blueboys showed promise for upcoming finals. Adam Hernandez led the preliminaries for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.55 seconds, advancing to finals alongside Austin Robinson who clocked in at 16.35 seconds. Both athletes also qualified for Saturday's finals in the 400-meter hurdles; Hernandez was second with a time of 56.66 seconds and Robinson fifth at 58.68 seconds.

The team will have three competitors in tomorrow's 100-meter finals: Doss placed second with a time of 10.92 seconds, Jaden Saunders seventh at 11.23 seconds, and Carter Wasson eighth at 11.24 seconds.

Additionally, Doss and Saunders advanced to compete in the final for the 200-meter event after finishing second (22.14 seconds) and eighth (22.90 seconds), respectively.

Events are set to continue tomorrow with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by running events starting at 12:15 p.m.
