The Illinois College men's swimming and diving team experienced a day of record-breaking performances during the second day of the Midwest Conference Championships at the Russell K. Osgood Pool in Grinnell, Iowa. The Blueboys accumulated 172 points, tying for fourth place with Lawrence in the team standings.

In the preliminaries of the 100-yard butterfly, Eli Eberle set a new school record with a time of 52.86, surpassing the previous mark by .04 seconds. However, Nathen Trachta soon eclipsed that record with a time of 52.77. In the final event, Eberle reclaimed his record by finishing in 51.97 seconds and secured fifth place while Trachta finished eighth with a time of 53.68.

Cooper Meyer made his mark on the school records in 3-meter diving later in the day. Due to scoring issues, final standings and point totals are expected to be released tomorrow.

The team also performed well in relay events; James Hammond, Meyer, John Masiliunas, and Xavier Applegate achieved fifth place in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:03.13. Another relay team comprising Masiliunas, Meyer, Eberle, and Trachta finished sixth in the 200-yard medley relay clocking in at 1:40.22.

Individually, Applegate secured tenth place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:50.94 while Masiliunas placed fifteenth in the 100-yard backstroke finishing at 56.60.

The championship is set to conclude tomorrow.
